Description	:	Last rites for a pioneer of the valley, Mrs. Ben Martin were held last Friday. Miss Mary Hoppe was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1857. When she was 23 years of age, she moved with her parents to Minneapolis, Minn. Her father Fred Hoppe, was a musical director of bands and orchestras in that city. When she was 23 years of age, she moved with her parents to Minneapolis, Minn. Her father Fred Hoppe, was a musical director of bands and orchestras in that city. Miss Hoppe became an accomplished pianist and pipe organist there. In 1884, she came west to become the bride of Ben Martin at Cheney. They moved from Cheney into Douglas C., and settled near Waterville where a son, Fred, was born. After four years, they moved to Chelan Co., and homesteaded on the north side of the lake about half way between Manson and Chelan. A daughter, Clara, was born there. Surviving relatives are the husband, Ben; the son and daughter, Fred and Clara Martin; a brother, John Hoppe of Spokane; and a sister, Mrs. Eugene Adams of Edmonds, Wa.
