Read More	DEATH CLAIMS FIRST WHITE CHILD Mrs. George Corbin Born in Burt County on April 16, 1857 Death last week, Tuesday claimed the first white child born in Burt county, when Clara Shafer Corbin, passed to her eternal reward after a long and well spent life in the county of her birth. Clara J. Shafer was born in the Arizona community east of Tekamah, on April 16, 1857, and died at her home in the same community, January 6, 1931, aged 74 years, 9 months and 10 days. She was the third child of Michael and Julia Shafer, and was the first white child born in Burt county. With her parents, brothers and sisters, she endured and enjoyed Pioneer life of those times. She first attended school in the log school house that stood where the Arizona church now stands. She was of Christian faith, but a member of no denomination. Thirty-nine years ago, April 15, 1892, she was married to George A. Corbin, the son of pioneer parents, and also a resident of that neighborhood. To them were born two children Eve and Noel. She is survived by her husband, son and daughter, two grandchildren, George and Claradel Tellifero, a Sister, Mrs. Viola Flanagan of Kimball, S.D., and two brothers Charles Shafer of Tekamah, and Bert Shafer of Bayard, Nebr. For many years Mrs. Corbin was active in the social life of the rural community; her hospitality and willingness to do for others will long be remembered. Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church in Tekamah, Thursday afternoon, the pastor, Rev. Dr. J. Frank Reed, officiating. The many floral offerings and large attendance of old time friends were tributes to her well spent life. Interment was made in Tekamah cemetery. The sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved relatives.
