Description	:	Clara passed away at Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward with her husband, Don, and family at her bedside. Clara grew up on her parents’ farm four miles east of St. Edward and graduated from St. Edward High School in 1941. She also attended Wayne State Teachers College and taught for six years in Platte County rural schools. Clara grew up on her parents’ farm four miles east of St. Edward and graduated from St. Edward High School in 1941. She also attended Wayne State Teachers College and taught for six years in Platte County rural schools. Known for her athletic skill during her school years, she was always one of the first chosen for a baseball or softball game. On June 4, 1947, she married Donald L. Cumming at the St. Edward Catholic Church. Clara and Don farmed together east of St. Edward for the next 65 years. They both entered Cloverlodge Care Center in 2012. Clara’s life was spent caring for her husband, children and grandchildren. She was a farmwife, raising chickens and tending her vegetable gardens, canning, baking cinnamon rolls, chocolate chip cookies, and feeding the hired men. She was a member of the Altar Society, taught catechism, played pitch and bridge, and belonged to the B-What-U-R Club and West Hill Extension Club. Mrs. Cumming is survived by her husband, Don, and their five children: Karen and her husband, Michael Kane of Silver Spring, MD; Connie and her husband, Greg Flaherty of Shawnee, KS; Jerry Cumming and Rex Cumming, both of Genoa; Lisa and her husband, Michael Marsh of Omaha; 13 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Freda Zimmerman of Pittsburgh, PA; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Clara was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Harold Zimmerman; sister, Helen and brother-in-law, Roger Otto. Clara and Don’s grandson, Fr. Brian Kane, will concelebrate with Msgr. Ralph Steffensmeier. Pallbearers are Steven, Daniel, Gregory and Douglas Kane, Christian Marsh, and Mark Otto.
