Description	:	On most records, Clara's first name is listed as Clarissa. Clara was the daughter of Captain Henry Hudson and Sarah Turner. She married Samuel W. Hudson on 31 August 1857 in Tent, New Castle, Delaware. Whether Samuel Hudson and Clarissa Hudson were related, or whether their same last names were identical is unknown. Read More	On most records, Clara's first name is listed as Clarissa. Clara was the daughter of Captain Henry Hudson and Sarah Turner. She married Samuel W. Hudson on 31 August 1857 in Tent, New Castle, Delaware. Whether Samuel Hudson and Clarissa Hudson were related, or whether their same last names were identical is unknown. The couple relocated to Iowa shortly after their marriage. In 1860, they were living in Port Byron, Iowa. Samuel joined the 14 Illinois Cavalry during the Civil War, and Clara later drew on his pension. By 1870, Samuel and Clara were living in Hampton, Iowa, and their family had grown to include, Martha, Ida, Hester, and Emma. It appears that Samuel W. Hudson died sometime in 1873 although no record exists of Samuel's death or resting place. Clara remarried, very quickly, to Thomas Clarkson. At the time of her marriage to Thomas Clarkston, Clara would likely have been pregnant with Samuel's child. This baby, born on 21 January 1874, was named Franklin A. Hudson. By 1880, Thomas and Clara Clarkston and their family had moved to Van Buren County, Iowa. ***************************************************** Clara P. Clarkson Clara P. Clarkson was born in Ocean View, Sussex County, Delaware and departed this life September 15, 1922 at the home of her daughter Mrs. V.P. Doud at Douds. She was married to Samuel Hudson in 1858 and to this union was born nine children, six children and husband preceded her. She was then married to Thomas Clarkson in 1873 and he has also preceded her in death. They came to Iowa in 1880. She was a good Christian and always remained so until the end. Always trusting in the Master. She was left a widow with five small children, but she never gave up, always ready to help others. Five years ago she had a stroke of paralysis and has since been afflicted. July 9, 1922 she fell and broke her hip from which she has always suffered. She was always loving and patient, never in any way wanting to be a burden to any of the family. Everyone knowing Grandma Clarkson as she was called by many, learned to love her always. She called the family to her bedside and asked them all to live to her teachings. She suffered something of untold agony, but her life went out with a sweet smile on her dear face. She leaves to mourn her loss, two daughters and one son, Mrs. V.P. Doud of Douds; Mrs. Frank Lemley of Chicago, Frank Hudson of Grand Island, Neb; one sister Mrs. Ruben Daisy of Ocean View, Delaware; nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a host of friends and neighbors.
