An operation was performed Saturday afternoon to remove pus from an abscess, which had formed, caused by the malady, but too late to save her life. Her death is a sad blow to her husband and little children and other relatives as she was not yet in the prime of life, and the end came with stunning forcefulness and was unexpected by many of the relatives. Mrs. Meis was one of those women who help to make the world better and whose memory will dwell in the hearts of her friends. Of a remarkable sweetness of disposition, possessed of goodness of heart in which charity and forbearance were strong components, she was an ideal wife and mother, a true friend and a helpful neighbor. To know her was to love and respect her. A close neighbor and old time friend on learning of her death was greatly shocked and summed up her character with the words "one of the best women I ever knew." Besides the bereaved husband she leaves six children, the eldest fourteen years of age and the youngest three years. Mrs. Anton Meis was born in Jackson county, Iowa, on May 21, 1872, thirty-six years ago, her maiden name being Clara Pletschette. She came with her mother to Plymouth county when a young girl and on June 6, 1893, was united in marriage with Anton Meis. For fifteen years they have lived an ideally happy life, working in unison and prospering greatly sharing each others joys and sorrows To them nine children have been born, three of whom have preceded the mother to the great beyond. Mrs. Meis leaves an aged mother and two sisters who live in Le Mars. They are Mrs. Pletschette, Mrs. Chas. Schnepf, and Mrs. P. Fisch. Another sister, Sister Godina, is in a convent at Minneapolis and a brother, Peter Pletschette, lives in Fredonia township. The funeral wil be held this morning at St. Joseph's church, of which the departed woman was a faithful and consistent member during her short but well spent life.
