Out of town relatives and friends attending the services were: Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Meis and daughter, Bernice, of Dyersville; Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Meis of Elgin, Neb; Mr. and Mrs. John Willenburg, Carroll; Miss Josephine Marx, Lansing, Mich.; Mrs. Susan Carey, Auburn; Miss Lizzie Marx, Sioux City; Miss Elizabeth Marx, Des Moines; Mrs. Leo Marx, Sioux City; Corporal Leonard Meis, Camp Riley, Kansas; Rev. M. Marx, Kingsley; Rev. J. Reilly; Moville; Miss Kathryn Scharfenkamp, Kingsley. Anton Meis died at the Sacred Heart hospital in this city Thursday following a brief illness caused by bladder trouble. He underwent an operation a few days before his death but failed to rally. Anton Meis was born June 1, 1868, at New Vienna, Iowa, and came to Plymouth county when a youth in 1885. He was engaged in farming all his active life and operated a farm three miles west of LeMars for many years. He was successful in his vocation and acquired a competence. Mr. Meis was a fine citizen, a good neighbor and friendly with all who knew him. Mr. Meis was united in marriage June 6, 1893, with Clara Pletschette, member of another well-known Plymouth county family. To this union nine children were born. Three boys died in infancy and a son Frank Meis, died in France while serving in the army in the World War. Mrs. Meis died May 16, 1908. Mr. Meis was married September 26, 1916, to Miss Christina Marx, who survives him. After retiring from the farm Mr. Meis lived in Le Mars of late years and built a fine modern home. He is survived by his children, who are, Mrs. Minnie Delperdang of Oyens, Lee Meis of America township, Sister Clarina, Wilmette, Ill., Sister Liguoria of Waconia, Minn., both members of the Order of Christian Charity, Sister M. Paula, Order of St. Francis, Dyersville, Iowa. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Bert Kemp and Mrs. Frank Nuebel of LeMars, two brothers, Henry and Joseph Meis of LeMars, and eight grandchildren. Wiltgen's funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
