Description	:	Death of Clarence C. Arbaugh. Clarence Clemson Arbaugh, second son of J.C. and Sylvia Arbaugh was born in Birmingham, March 17, 1895, and departed this life May 21, 1915, at 10 a.m., aged twenty years, two months and 4 days. He was educated in the public schools of Birmingham. He chose nursing as his profession, going first to the Santa Fe hospital at Fort Madison, and later as an attendant at the Retreat, a sanitarium in Des Moines, where he fell sick. He was educated in the public schools of Birmingham. He chose nursing as his profession, going first to the Santa Fe hospital at Fort Madison, and later as an attendant at the Retreat, a sanitarium in Des Moines, where he fell sick. On coming to his home May 8th, it was discovered that he had the dread disease of diptheria in malignant form and all that medical skill and loving hands could do was done, but to no avail. Death, who loves a shining mark, has claimed him for his own. Clarence Arbaugh was a manly young man, possessed a courteous and sunny disposition, and numbered his friend by the large circle of his acquaintance. His death leaves a vacant place among his companions which never can be filled. He attended Sunday school in his home town and was much impressed with the Sunday meetings in Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Lawrence Willis, who passed away October 20, 1902. He leaves his father and mother and a large circle of friends who mourn his early death. A brief service was held on the sidewalk near the home at 1 p.m. Saturday, conducted by Rev. J.W. Lambert, and the remains were interred in the cemetery at Leando, beside his brother and grandparents. Source: Van Buren Co.
