The Nelson Veterans of Foreign Wars had charge of the military service at the graveside in the Nelson cemetery (sic). Clarence Dale Armstrong was born to Clarence H. and Maud I. Armstrong on Aug. 25, 1918, on a farm northeast of Nelson, Nebr. He went through the eighth grade at the Blaine Center school before attending high school in Nelson where he graduated in 1938. In the spring of 1939 he moved with his parents to Colorado where he joined the Adventist church the following September. He worked at various jobs before his call into the service on Mar. 22, 1942. He served in Hawaii from July 1942 until his discharge in October of 1945, when he returned to the states. The next month he re-enlisted. After serving 18 months in Germany he returned home in October of 1948. He was a plumber's apprentice when called back into the service in October of 1950. He had been in Korea less than six weeks when he was killed in action on Febr. 13, 1951. He leaves to mourn his passing, his mother and father, one sister, a niece, two nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. A sister and brother preceded him in death.
