In June of 1989 Clarence Day Dragoo celebrated his one hundredth birthday. On January 3, 1990 Mr. Dragoo died at Brown County General Hospital after having been seriously ill for the past three months. A descendent of two pioneer Brown County families, he was born June 27, 1889 to William Tecumseh Sherman Dragoo and Nannie Lucinda McCormick Dragoo. A descendent of two pioneer Brown County families, he was born June 27, 1889 to William Tecumseh Sherman Dragoo and Nannie Lucinda McCormick Dragoo. He was justly proud of his paternal ancestry as he was a direct descendant of the first pioneer settler in Brown County, Belteshazzar Dragoo. He was a retired Union Township farmer. A' long-time precinct worker, he had worked at,.the polls for more than 40 years. Mr. Dragoo was the Iast surviving member of the old Ripley Concert Band. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Louisa Myrle, and a brother, William, Jr. His wife, Bertha Johnson Dragoo, died in 1949. And he lost a son, Clarence (Bob), Jr., who died in France six days after peace had been declared in 1945. Surviving are two sons, David Williarn (Bill), Sr. and John R. (Pete), both of Ripley. He also leaves his daughter-in-law, Lois; three grandchildren, Betty Campbell and Bill Dragoo, Jr., of Ripley, and Judith Young, of Russellville, and five great grandchildren. Services were held on Saturday at the Cahall, Trapp & Wilson Funeral Home, with burial in Maplewood Cemetery. Memorials are suggested for either the Ripley or Russellville Life Squads.
