Description	:	MAYETTA- Clarence E. Vaught, 73, Mayetta, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 1995, at his home. He owned and operated Cedar Lake. He was also a stockman. Mr. Vaught served in the U.S. Army during WWII, earning the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was born on May 13, 1922, at Mayetta, the son of John David and Martha Sibils Vaught. He was a lifelong resident of the Mayetta area. Mr. Vaught was a member of VFW in Holton, and the Mayetta Masonic Lodge AF & AM 393. Read More	MAYETTA- Clarence E. He was a lifelong resident of the Mayetta area. Mr. Vaught was a member of VFW in Holton, and the Mayetta Masonic Lodge AF & AM 393. He married Jewell J. Jones on Oct. 3, 1942, at Los Angeles, Calif. She died Nov. 7, 1994. He then married Renetta Moore on Dec. 24, 1994. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Steven Vaught, Topeka; a step-son, Russell Martin, Japan; two daughters, Edwina J. Hoffman, Lawrence, and Sandra L. Zimmerman, Mayetta; a step-daughter, Jennifer Area, Mayetta; four sisters, Gladys Perkins, Holton, Rosemary Robertson, Falkner, Miss., Vera Reeves and Doris Jean Kehler, both of Topeka; three brothers, Carl Vaught, Hiawatha, Raymond Vaught, Topeka, and Henry Vaught, Meriden; seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter. A granddaughter, Carrie Ann Zimmerman, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be at 1 pm today at Mercer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Holton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Mayetta Masonic Lodge in care of Kansas State Bank in Holton. Published August 5, 1995 -- Topeka Capital Journal The Bronze Star was awarded S/Sgt. Clarence E. Vaught, Mayetta, who is with Company E of the 35th in France. On July 7, Sgt. Vaught (then a pfc.) and three companions volunteered to lead and assist medical aide men to enter an open area containing several wounded men. He had succeeded in assisting with the evacuation of the men, when the enemy lit the area with flares and covered the ground with machine gun fire. Sgt. Vaught and his comrades continued their mission, and evacuated all the wounded men and marked the location of the dead. Sgt. Vaught is also the holder of the Purple Heart.
