Clarence died Monday, July 30, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor, Aberdeen. Clarence Ervin Junker was born July, 26, 1923, to John P. and Louise (Seiler) Junker, at Java, S.D. He died on July 30, 2007, at Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen, S.D., at the age of 84. He graduated from Eureka High School in 1941. He was a salesman all his life. He began working for Montgomery Ward at stores in Bismarck, N.D., Wahpeton, N.D., Willmar, Minn., Rochester, Minn., and finally came to Aberdeen, S.D. He worked at Ward for 23 years. Real estate was his dream, so in 1963 he received his broker's license, and in 1965 he opened Junker Real Estate and Insurance and closed the business in 1986. He was also the third generation to sell Milbank Mutual Insurance. Clarence and Lois worked alongside each other in the real estate and insurance business as well as in the monument business working for Northern Monument from 1990 until retirement in 2000. Clarence married "his bride," Lois Mae Olson, on Sept. 15, 1946, in Breckenridge, Minn. They had five children and were actively involved in their lives. Clarence was a very active member of the former EUB church - now the Faith United Methodist Church serving as an usher, trustee, a cub scout leader, as well as serving on many other committees. In 1954 he started a church softball league. Within a few years he had a 14-team league and had also promoted a lighted field for the teams. Clarence was president of the Aberdeen Board of Realtors for two years, and was Realtor of the year in 1974. He also served as a director of the South Dakota Board of Realtors and was an active committee member for the Education Committee. He was a state and national member of the "Enlarged Home Protection Program" and attended a meeting in Washington, D.C. Clarence was actively involved in bringing businesses to the Aberdeen Community. He sold the land for the original McDonald's, Midwest Tire Corporation as well as Scotty's Restaurant. He was also active in PTA, working on the local, state and national levels. For two years he was the state legislative chairman and on one of these trips the highlight was a luncheon with Betty Ford. He belonged to the Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce and was a member of the ambassadors and was named Ambassador of the Year in 1977. He served on several community committees: school and park, building advisory committee for the Aberdeen public school, and the board of juvenile court advisory council. He also attended a national seminar in Chicago for the juvenile court. Clarence belonged to the booster club, the sportsman's club, the Moose Lodge and was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge. He loved fishing in Canada with his boys, fishing at the river with Klingman, West and his other fishing buddies. He loved boating, hunting, water-skiing, as well as playing baseball and softball and watching any sporting event. He enjoyed visiting his children and their families. A special part of his life was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren --- this time might include a fishing lesson, hunting lesson, card-playing lesson, a game of chess or checkers, a morning trip to Daylight Donuts or going to Storybook Land for a train ride or to drive the go-karts. For the past year, Clarence has lived at the Mother Joseph Manor and was an active part of that community. He enjoyed the special music, watching the birds and fish, playing bingo, visiting with the staff and his roommates and of course the daily visits by his wife of 60 years. He is survived by his wife Lois Junker; two sons, Paul J. (Kathy) Junker and Dave A. Junker; three daughters, Carol (Steve) Bailey, Patti Marshall and Debra (James) Woodworth; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; his cousins; the 2:30 coffee group at Millstone Restaurant; friend of the family Agnes Mayer; his church friends; special caregiver Allan Thornton; the other caregivers; and the residents and staff at Mother Joseph Manor.
