He had been in failing health. Born May 6, 1936, in Whitley County, Ind., he was a son of the late Henry and Irene (Pequignot) Hinen. Read More	CLARENCE EUGENE "BLONDIE" HINEN, 78, of Jefferson Township, Whitley County, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2014, at his home with his son and daughter at his side. He had been in failing health. Born May 6, 1936, in Whitley County, Ind., he was a son of the late Henry and Irene (Pequignot) Hinen. He spent his formative years in Jefferson Township and graduated from Jefferson Center High School. On Jan. 7, 1959, he was inducted into the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Germany. On Dec. 19, 1960, he was moved to reserve status. On Dec. 31, 1964, he was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage to Nancy L. Hollenbaugh on July 18, 1959. Although divorced in 2009, the couple remained close. She survives. He started his work career with Fruehauf, Fort Wayne in 1955 as a journeyman and mechanic. Later the company became known as Hoosier Trailer and then Transcom, U.S.A. He retired in 2002. In conjunction with his employment, he farmed with his brothers, Arthur "Shorty" and Frank Hinen in Jefferson and Aboite Townships for over 20 years. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Fort Wayne and the American Legion Post 160, Roanoke. He enjoyed traveling with his family to the American southwest, Georgia and Hawaii. An avid bowler, he bowled for C-M Plating team at Roanoke. He also enjoyed golfing. He is also survived by his children, Laura L. Hinen of Columbia City, Carla Nickolson of Fort Wayne, Deanna L. (Matthew) Dillon of Jasper, Ga., and Scott M. Hinen of Fort Wayne; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary (David) Hasty of Huntington and Pat (Robert) Kehmeyer of Columbia City; and a brother, Arthur (Donna) Hinen of Columbia City. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Roy, Frank, Harry, Robert, John, and Ralph Hinen. Mass of Christian Burial is 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Roanoke, with visitation one hour prior. Father Dale Bauman officiating. Visitation also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial in St Joseph Catholic Cemetery, with the Roanoke American Legion presenting honors.
