Hofmann With his loving family by his side, Clarence went to be with his wife Clara on Oct. 18, 2005. He lost his last numerous battles with pneumonia. Clarence was born in Worden, MT., to Frank and Marie Hofmann on June 5, 1919. He grew up in Worden and graduated from Huntley Project High School in 1938. Clarence married the love of his life, Clara Thaut, on June 30, 1940, and they made their home in Worde, where they raised four children, Don, Carol, Janice, and Bob. Clarence worked at the Farmers Union until joining his father and brother Frank at Hofmann and Sons blacksmith shop. When his father retired, Clarence and Frank operated what became Hofmann Brothers until retiring in 1983. Clarence took a lot of pride in his work and was a perfectionist, as was show in the design and construction of the many beet boxes he made for the area farmers. Clarence was an active participant in his church, a volunteer fireman and a member of various boards of directors in the community. An important and meaningful part of Clarence's life was his membership in the Masonic Lodge in Worden. He also loved sports. He pitched for the Farmers Union semi-professional baseball team, and his brother Frank was his catcher. He even pitched briefly for the Billings Mustangs in 1948. He refereed basketball for many years and was inducted into the Montana Officials Association Hall of Fame in 1985. Clarence and Clara moved to Billings in 1998, and were able to thoroughly enjoyed their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They kept Clarence young and active and brought him much happiness and pride. The loved ones who survive Clarence are: sons, Don (Kay) Hofmann of Ismay, MT., Bob (Peg) Hofmann; and daughter Janice (Dean) Fuller, all of Billings, MT. His 10 grandchildren included David (Jeannine) Hofmann, Andrea Hofmann, Lynette Mocabee, Alan (Kim) Mocabee, Brad (Melissa Fuller, Brian Fuller, Julia (Justin) Shovar, Pam (Rod) Reeves, Maria (Brandon) Bertrand and Rebecca Hofmann. Three great-grandchildren who gave him so much pleasure and happiness are Adam and Kelsey, Haley and Bryce Mocabee, Austin Johnson, Mason and Jessica Reeves, Ethan Peterson, Allison Shovar, Jordan and Madison harris, Laney Fuller and Ellie Bertrand. Bye, Grandpa, "We Love You More!" Clarence's surviving siblings are Ernie Hofmann, Anna (Otto) Mueller, Helen Kirchner, Esther (Ed) Thaut and Elsie Dalke. Preceding Clarence in Death are his parents; wife Clara; daughter Carol Jackson; brothers Frank, Carl, and Harold Hofmann; and sister Marie. Service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 24, at the Bethlehem Congregational Church in Worden, MT. Interment will follow at the Pleasantview Cemetery in Ballantine, MT. Memorials can be sent in his name to the Bethlehem Congregational Church in Worden, MT., Huntley Project Masonic Lodge #144 in Worden, or the charity of your choice.
