WAYNE TOWNSHIP Clarence Frederick Onken was born on August 1, 1920 in Wayne Township, the son of Eilt Harm Onken and Emma Gesina Dirks Onken. He attended schools in the vicinity. He was baptized and confirmed in the Wayne Lutheran church. On October 6, 1942, he entered the army, eventually seeing service in Japan. He was discharge from service on February 10, 1946. Recently he had been employed as a trucker on the highway construction job between Mt. Vernon and Martelle. Besides his parents, he is survived by two sisters, and two brothers: Mrs. Norbert Sauser, Dubuque and Mrs. Fred Peliseck, Cedar Rapids, Alva, Monticello and Henry, Anamosa. Also surviving are five nephews and ten nieces. A brother, Herman, was killed in action in Belgium in 1945. Funeral services were held at the Goettsch funeral home Wednesday afternoon with burial at Oakwood cemetery. Rev. F.H. Kehren had charge of the services. Members of the V.F.W. and American Legion Posts will conduct military rites. Pallbearers were Donald Nordman, Carl Renk, Galen Graves, Dean Moncrief, Kenneth Schneider and Morgan Hyde.
