MILLER, HOWARD—Howard Miller passed away Sunday, August 6, 1972, at his home in Geneva, Neb., at the age of 61 years, 10 months and 28 days. Howard was born September 9, 1910, on a farm near Kowanda, Neb., a little village between Oshkosh and Chappell. He was the son of Bessie A. Miller, and the late Roy C. Miller. In 1912 the family moved back to Fillmore county where he spent his entire life. Howard was united in marriage to Margurete Reemts at Seneca, Kas., February 20, 1930. To this union were born two children, Joann Elene Curtis of Kearney and Donald Roy Miller of Fairmont. The first three years of his married life were spent working for the Capitol Bridge Construction company of Lincoln. The rest of his life was spent farming and in the livestock business in Fillmore county. In 1953 he moved from his farm northwest of Geneva to Geneva from where he continued his farming operations with his son, don. He was also one of the founders and co-owners of the Geneva Grain Company. During his farming years he was one of the first farmers willing to try any new advancement for agriculture. He spent several summers following the harvest from Texas to the Dakotas doing custom combining. Howard was a great lover of all sports, personally participating in fishing, hunting and golf. He belonged to several fraternal organizations and was also a member of the First United Methodist church. Preceding him in death was his father, Roy C. Miller. Surviving are his wife, Margurete; his daughter, Joann and son-in-law, Charles Paul Curtiss of Kearney; his son, Don R. and daughter-in-law Kathryn Ewalt Miller of Fairmont, and seven grandchildren. Survivors also include his mother, Bessie A. Miller of Geneva; two sisters, Merle Schupbach of Pacific Grove Cal., and Mildred Farmer of Geneva; six nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the First United Methodist church in Geneva at 10:30 a. m. August 9 with Rev. John E. Stayton officiating. The Farmer-Harris funeral home was in charge of the service. Mrs. Melvin Olson provided the organ music. Pallbearers were Ray Ainsworth, John Pittard, John Brooke, Bernard Weiss, Robert Nichols and Kenneth Prater. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery.
