Description	:	Clarence Leroy Snethen was born May 25, 1919, the tenth of eleven children, to James Doyle and Mary Prudence (Flanagan) Snethen in Harrison County, Missouri. He attended country school through the eighth grade and high school at Blythedale, Missouri, and Lamoni, IA; graduating with the Lamoni Class of 1939. Read More	Clarence Leroy Snethen was born May 25, 1919, the tenth of eleven children, to James Doyle and Mary Prudence (Flanagan) Snethen in Harrison County, Missouri. He attended country school through the eighth grade and high school at Blythedale, Missouri, and Lamoni, IA; graduating with the Lamoni Class of 1939. He met Maxine Todd on a blind date and they courted through the war years using gas rationing stamps for his truck. They were married September 3, 1944 in Davis City, IA at the RLDS Church. They were blessed with two daughters, Joyce Rae and Nancy Ann and lived all of their sixty seven years together in Lamoni, Iowa. Clarence was involved in various aspects of agriculture throughout his life including livestock trucking, custom combining, a livestock consignment auction, a large hog confinement operation, and farming. He was baptized during his teen years in the Community of Christ Church (known as the RLDS Church) and was ordained to the Office of Teacher during his young adult years. He served faithfully in that calling throughout his life. Civic activities included serving on the Lamoni Town Council, being a charter member of the Lamoni Lions Club and receiving the honor of being a Fellow in that organization. He was also a Grand Marshall in Lamoni's annual 4th of July parade and received the Citizen of the Year Award in 2007. After his retirement from Lamoni Farms, Inc. he enjoyed gardening on a massive scale, giving away dozens of gladiola bouquets and vegetables to his relatives and friends. He enjoyed fishing during the warm weather. A favorite pastime during the winter months was to crack walnuts which friends also enjoyed. Checkers was a lifetime hobby, and he was seldom beaten. He is survived by his wife, Maxine of Lamoni; daughters Joyce Rae (Tim) Inman of Randolph, IA and Nancy Ann (David) Stewart of Estero, FL; grandsons Chad Inman of Madison, WI, Jonathan (Tracy) Inman of Sun Prairie, WI; Burke Stewart of Savannah, GA; two great-grandchildren, Miles and Evelyn Inman; and his sister, Esther Williams Gorden of Des Moines, IA; sisters-in-law Betty (Keith) Ballantyne of Ashland, OH, Elma Fern Todd of Fredericksburg, TX, Lela Todd of Knoxville, IA; plus a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and their wives: Grant (Mary), Mason (Opal), Otis (Effie), Frank (Delma), Luther (Velma) and James; his sisters and their husbands: Flora (Floyd) Lesh, Martha (Ed) Lacy, Neva (Robert) Ballantyne; and brothers-in-law Frank Williams and Chet Gorden; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Keith Todd, Kenneth (Emma) Todd, and Gerald Todd.
