Funeral services were conducted from the Big Timber Lutheran church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Ocee Johnson officiating. Music, "Lead me Gently Home" and "O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go," was by Mrs. Margeret Busha and Mrs. A. Ronald McDonnell. Pallbearers were Stanley Hanson, Arnold Johnson, A. C. McDonald, Art Minshall, Clarence Petaja, and Ross Wiliams. Interment was in Mountain View. Mr. Nyre was born October 14, 1890, at Mondovi, Wis., a son of Mr. and Mrs. Knute Nyre. He enjoyed a colorful career in Wisconsin, North Dakota, and Montana. Always looking to the future and new innovations, he started as a telegrapher at the age of 19. Subsequently, the family moved to Carpio, N. D., to farm and again Mr. Nyre looked to new diversions. This time he bought one of the very early airplane engines which had been recovered undamaged from a fire. Around this engine, he built a plane and actually got it up into the air in 1913 at the age of 23. He married Josie Dahl, a school teacher, December 29, 1915, at Coopertown, N. D., and they would have celebrated their fiftieth anniversary next December. Electricity was brought into Carpio in the early 1920's and Mr. Nyre got the call to start up and operate the first power plant. He continued until public utilities came in, but in the meantime studied electronics and became a radio repairman. The Nyres also owned and operated a gasoline station and repair shop until the middle 1940's when the wanderlust got them. Heading west, they found Big Timber to their liking and settled here in 1946. Another of his interests always had been the building trades. During the first few years here, Mr. Nyre worked around town and on ranches as a carpenter, electrician, plumber, and air conditioner tinsmith. He then started out on his own again and designed and built three fine homes in the vicinity of Sixth and Everett. Survivors include his widow; a son, Paul Nyre of Casa Brande, Ariz.; three sisters, Mrs. Selma Knickerbocker of Shelby, Mrs. Esther Sem of Stanley, N. D., and Mrs. Golda Steinart of LaCrosse, Wis.; a brother Roy Nyre of Standley N. D.; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, Cyril, and a daughter, Edna.
