Holy Rosary was prayed Wednesday evening at Brown Funeral Home in Paton. Clarence R. Wilber, the son of Frank and Jessie Mertz Wilber, was born Nov. 20, 1903, at Paton. He died March 22, 1998, at Greene County Medical Center in Jefferson. Clarence attended the Paton school. On Feb. 12, 1927, Clarence Wilber was united in marriage to Mary Fields at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Grand Junction. To this union were born two daughters, Betty (Mrs. Ted) Thomsen of Jefferson and Barbara (Mrs. Robert) Hansen of Paton. After their marriage the couple farmed for five years near Paton, and then Clarence worked for Dudley Oil Company and Horn Oil Company for a number of years. In 1940 the couple purchased their present farm est of Paton. Clarence also operated a milk business from his farm and later sold L.P. gas. He retired in 1967, but continued to help around the farm. Clarence was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Paton and was also a charter member of Paton Lions Club. Survivors include his wife; two daughters; four grandchildren, Steve, Tom, Kris and Kathy; eight great-grandchildren; and one nephew, Paul Wilber of Jefferson.
