The Chico Enterprise, Monday Evening, January 10, 1944: "Clarence Entler Dies Suddenly After Surgery. Clarence Seward Entler, 59, pioneer resident of Chico and Butte county, died late yesterday afternoon at the Enloe hospital following an operation. "He was born December 27, 1874, on the J.F. Entler ranch south of Chico, and grew to manhood there. He attended the local schools and Chico Normal, later going to Heald's Business college in San Francisco, from which he graduated in 1896. He then returned to Chico to assist his father and was married on December 30, 1896, to Emma Teass of Red Bluff. As a gift a 160 acre ranch was given the young couple, and they lived on that place until 1907, at that time selling the ranch and moving to Oakland for their health. In 1910 Entler purchased a feed and fuel yard in Oakland and operated the same successfully for about 11 years, and then sold out to return to Chico and take up farming again, and has remained here ever since. "Surviving him are his wife Emma, and one daughter, Sue M. Greenwell, a granddaughter, Mrs. Charles H. Ford (formerly Fayella Fenton), and a sister, Mrs. H.A. Roth of Chico. He was a devout member of the Trinity Methodist church, and fraternally was a member of Chico Lodge No. 113 IOOF for more than 40 years. He was also a member of the Chico Grange. "Entler was widely well known and well liked by all who knew him for his kindness, honesty and integrity. "Friends are invited to attend the funeral services tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock from the funeral chapel of Black, Johnson and Brusie, with Rev. H.H. Allen, of the Trinity Methodist church, officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot of the Chico cemetery." ~~~ Birth and death dates and locations, mother's maiden name Henshaw, from California Death Index Records. 69-year-old Clarence Seward Entler was interred, per the Chico Cemetery Association Records, in the plot noted, on January 11, 1944.
