"ONE OF THE OLDEST CALLED. Daughter of County's First Judge Dies at Home in Kansas."--The remains of Mrs. George B. Liggett, one of the true pioneers of this section, who died December 1 at the home of her daughter, Mrs.Edith Stephens, at Wichita, Kansas, were brought to Thurman last Saturday evening. Mrs. Liggett, only daughter of Thomas and Eliza (Brubaker) Greenwood, was born at Stoyton, Pennsylvania, on April 19, 1840. When but a small child she came with her parents to Gallatin, Missouri, and in 1846 to Fremont county, Iowa. For a number of years the family lived on a farm just east of Thurman. The place to this day is known as the Judge Greenwood farm. In 1864 Miss Greenwood was united in marriage to George Biglow Ligggett and to their union four sons and two daughters were born: Frank James, now living near Bradyville, Iowa; Walter Scott of Scott City, Kansas; Ralph Waldo of Dillon, Montana; Lester Emerson of Collegeport, Texas; Mrs. Edith Stephens of Wichita. Mrs. Grace Bridges, near Riverton, preceded her mother in death only nine days. The husband and father departed this life in 1925. Mr. and Mrs. Liggett moved to Kansas in 1894, living first near New Murdock and later at Bluffs City, where Mrs. Liggett remained until about a year ago when she went to her daughter's home. From early childhood she was a faithful and consistent member of the M. E. church, looking to her Savior for guidance in all the happenings of her long life of more than eighty seven years. So passes another of those intrepid souls whose name is linked in enduring characaters in the early history of Fremont county. Funeral services were held from the Thurman Methodist church at 2:00 o'clock Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. A. Howard, acting pastor. The remains were laid to rest in the Thurman cemetery. ******************************
