Read More	She was born at Kingsburg, NY Obituary-Spencer Paper 1891 At the residence of D.C. Gillespie in this city, June 15th at 1:15 pm., Mrs Clarrissa Gloyd, aged about 71 years. Clarrissa Parsons was born at Kingsburg, N.Y., July 27th, 1820, and was married to Levi Gloyd at Covington, N.Y., Jan 2d, 1839 and moved to Delevan, Wis., in 1840, where five children were born to them. In 1854 they moved to New Buffalo, Wis., where three more children were born. In 1868 they moved to Rockford, Ill. In 1870 came to Clear Lake, Iowa and 1872 found them on a farm in Meadow township, this county. In 1881 they moved to Council Grove, Kansas, where Mr Gloyd died. For the last five years she has had a home with her daughter Mrs. D.C. Gillespie, where she passed the years in comfort and pleasantness, her every wish being gratified by loving children and tender friends. She was the mother of eight children, five of whom survive her, three boys, Alfred, of Virginia City, Mont., James and Gurton of Spencer, and two girls, Fanny, wife of D.C. Gillespie, of Spencer, and Florence, wife of A.B. Smith of Kansas, near Fort Riley. Two children died in infancy and one son Charles, who died at Atlanta, Ga., in 1864. He and his brother Alfred being members of Co. E 12th Wis. Inft. She has one brother living in Delavan, Wis. and one sister at Denver, Col.. At a very early age she was converted and united with the Presbyterian church, but after her marriage, her husband being a Methodist, she united with that society, since which time she has ever lived a conscientious christian life, doing what she could for her master, and the same hand which has sustained her all along down through life, remained with her to the last and buoyed her over the dark river, and wafted her spirit home to the God who gave it. She "died in the triumphs of a living faith." The funeral was from the M.E. church at 2:30 pm yesterday, and was attended by a large number of sympathizing friends and neighbors, the Rev. A.S. Cochrau preaching a very impressive sermon from Rev. xiv, 13, dwelling largly on the portion which reads "and their work do follow them," The choir sang with lingering effect,some very fin selections, one especially, "Mother's Hand," which to our mind was so beautiful and appropriate. The remains were followed to the cemetery by all her children, except one, (Alfred), and gently laid to rest by hush of loving friends. Thus the light of a mother's pure, sweet life went out, but her memory will ever live in the hearts of her children whom she loved so much.
