Mr. Davis was born Aug. 22, 1925, in Carroll County, VA to the late Albert J. and Sallie Edwards Davis. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in World War II and was decorated with two Purple Hearts. He was also a member of Sky View Baptist Church, the Grover King VFW Post 1115 of Hillsville, VA and Hillsville Masonic Lodge #193 AF&AM. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Virgil Bond of Fancy Gap, VA; two granddaughters and a spouse, Bridget and Don Lawson of Barren Springs, VA and Tina Edwards of Fancy Gap, VA; a great-grandson, Tucker Lawson of Barren Springs, VA; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Gladys and B.F. Hull of Fancy Gap, VA and Opal and Garnett Martin of Woodlawn, VA; a brother and sister, the Rev. Winford and Betty Davis of Mt. Airy, NC; several nieces and nephews and a host of special friends. In addition to is parents, Mr. Davis was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. The funeral service was held Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, at 2 p.m. at Sky View Baptist Church. The service was conducted by the Rev. Wendell Horton and the Rev. Winford Davis. Burial was in Mountain Plains United Methodist Church Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by Grover King Post 1115, VFW and Masonic Rites were conducted by Hillsville Masonic Lodge #193 AF&AM. The family received friends Saturday from 7-9 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home of Mount Airy, where his body remained until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes before the funeral service.
