Description	:	Claude Lester McCullough, a long time resident of Leavenworth, passed away on January 29, 2009 at the age of 96 while living at Aaron's Adult Family Home in Wenatchee. He was born in Wenatchee, Washington on January 27, 1913, the youngest of 6 children born to Andrew Jackson and Laura Anna (Davenport) McCullough. Read More	Claude Lester McCullough, a long time resident of Leavenworth, passed away on January 29, 2009 at the age of 96 while living at Aaron's Adult Family Home in Wenatchee. He was born in Wenatchee, Washington on January 27, 1913, the youngest of 6 children born to Andrew Jackson and Laura Anna (Davenport) McCullough. He was raised in Dryden and Wenatchee where his father operated blacksmith shops. He attended Wenatchee high school where he lettered in football and track. He met the love of his life, Edith Ferrell and they were married on December 18, 1937 in Wenatchee. After a short stay in Wenatchee they moved to Spokane where he was a civilian security guard during WWII. After the war they moved to Seattle where he went to work for Safeway. He drove semi trucks for Safeway for 35 years and retired in 1977. Claude took great pride in his job and received many awards over the years for a safe driving record while driving over a million miles. During their years in Seattle, he and Edith raised 3 children together; two sons, Ken, and Darrell, and a daughter Cheryl. In 1985 they moved back to Leavenworth and settled into a condo and enjoyed retirement with their friends and family. During the years his boy's were growing up he was very active with them in the Boy Scouts of America. Claude and Edith enjoyed countless picnics and camping trips with friends. Claude was a Life member of the Kirkland-Bellevue Elks Lodge. Both he and Edith were very active during the 70's and 80' with the Elks fundraisers and social gatherings. After moving to Leavenworth he became involved with the Senior Center where he served on their board of directors, and made many good friends, his pool playing buddies in particular, and enjoyed playing pool with them twice a week well into his 90's. Claude always looked forward to football season and tried not to miss a Seahawks game on TV. He was always ready to travel and enjoyed many road trips over the years to visit friends and family. He is survived by his wife of 71 years Edith McCullough of Wenatchee; sons Ken (Kirsten) McCullough of West Richland, Darrell (Judy) McCullough of Kennewick, and daughter Cheryl McCullough of Wenatchee; grandchildren, Lani McCullough, Shawn (Julie) McCullough, Jason (Brenda) McCullough and Theresa Randolph and one great-grandchild, Forrest Smith. Claude was preceded in death by his parents and 5 siblings, Ethel McCullough, Mabel Farris, Lula McCullough, Beulah (Cleo) Allen and Jack (Boots) McCullough. A special thanks to Carmen and her exceptional staff at Aaron's Adult Family Home. The care and compassion they provided Claude during the last few months of his life is very much appreciated. A funeral service of commemoration to celebrate the life of Claude McCullough will be held Friday, February 6, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 5, 2009 from 1-7 p.m. at Ward's Funeral Chapel. Private family internment will be in the Mt. View Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Cascade Medical Center Foundation at 817 Commercial St. Leavenworth, WA. 98826 or The Leavenworth Senior Center at P.O. Box 1033, Leavenworth, WA. 98826.
