Read More	Lethbridge Herald, Lethbridge Alberta Canada OBITUARIES FOR SATURDAY, APRIL 5, 2008 CLAUDIA JOYCE SMITH passed away on April 2, 2008 after a short and courageous battle with cancer in St. George, Utah, surrounded by her loving family. Joyce was born in Cardston , Alberta on May 4th, 1928 to Grover A. Thomas and Flora Pearl Beaves. Through two marriages Joyce was blessed with five beautiful children. In June of 1985 she married Bryan Thomas Smith, of Hill Spring, who passed away in December of 1996. Joyce was raised in Glenwood, Alberta. In 1949 she received a teaching certificate from the Department of Education at the University of Alberta in Calgary. Her first teaching assignment was in a one room school house in Benton, Alberta. Joyce was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and found joy in serving in the Church. Joyce's happiest moments were spent with her family, laughing, telling stories, and singing around the piano. She was a vibrant personality who had an innate ability to make others feel they were loved, with a special talent for working with children. She loved to travel and in her later years had the opportunity to visit such places as Spain, Israel, and Hawaii. Joyce is survived by one son, Scott Sweeney (Ann); four daughters, Stephanie Wilkey (Randy), Becky Weaver (Dan), Michelle Egbert (Tarre), and Melissa Sweeney; step-children, Valerie Olsen (Bob), Craig Smith (Mary Ellen), Gary Smith (Carolyn), Joy Steed (Merrill) and Randy Smith; as well as 41 Grandchildren and 32 Great-Grand children. Also survived by a sister, Priscilla Law (Keith), and brothers, James H. Thomas (Marilyn), McKinley Thomas (Raija), and Maurice G. Thomas (Susan). The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hill Spring, Alberta on Tuesday, April 8th at 11:00 a.m. with Bishop Craig Smith Officiating. Friends may meet the family at the Cardston Alberta Stake Centre (East Hill), Cardston on Monday April 7th from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. or at the Church from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the Service.
