Ward, who at one time resided on a farm west of Creighton, died at his home in Fremont on last Thursday night, after a prolonged illness. He had been in failing health for several years and had been bedfast for the past fifteen months. Claudius Leroy Ward was born at Rockbridge County, Va. on June 6, 1859 and died on July 18, 1935 at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 12 days. The deceased came to Dodge county, Nebraska and engaged in the milling business at Scribner for a few years. On April 27, 1885, he was united in marriage to Kathern D. Ives at Fremont, Nebr. and settled on a farm near Scribner, where they lived until the spring of 1919. From there they removed to Creighton and resided on a farm west of town and lived here until the spring of 1932, returning again to Fremont, where Mr. Ward resided until death. Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Ward, four of whom are living. One son, Curtis, preceded his father in death. Besides his widow, the sons and daughters left to mourn are Miss Mabel Ward, Omaha, Mrs. L.S. Wilkins, Fremont and Jay and Roy Ward of Creighton. Mr. and Mrs. Ward celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on April 27, 1935, having completed the half century of wedded bliss and rejoiced in the providence that had watched over them. Mr. Ward united with the Methodist church since moving to Fremont and was a devout member up until the time of his death. The remains were brought to Creighton on Saturday afternoon from Fremont and funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon from the Methodist church at 2:00 o'clock. Rev. R.B.E. Hill had charge of the last rites. Scores of friends and acquaintances of the departed man assemble for the last service. Interment was made in Greenwood cemetery.
