He immigrated to this country at the age of 23 years and spent the first few years in Iowa, where he married Anna Catherine Nelson. Later they moved to Wessington Springs, S.D., for a short time, then homesteaded in Lyman county, this state. In 1912 he and his family moved to Hand county, where he resided until his death. Read More	Obit of Claus Volkers Claus Volkers was born in 1862 near Berlin, Germany. He immigrated to this country at the age of 23 years and spent the first few years in Iowa, where he married Anna Catherine Nelson. Later they moved to Wessington Springs, S.D., for a short time, then homesteaded in Lyman county, this state. In 1912 he and his family moved to Hand county, where he resided until his death. Both Mr. and Mrs. Volkers were taken sick with the flu about three weeks ago and then had pneumonia. Mr. Volkers died Thursday, March 30, at his home five miles south of St. Lawrence. He leaves to mourn his loss his aged wife and six children as follows: Henry Volkers, Mrs. Anna Volkers Austermiller, Malinta, Ohio; Margaret Fanning, St. Lawrence, Hinnie Volkers, Cogswell, N. Dak.; Claus Volkers, and Christian Volkers, St. Lawrence. Funeral services were held at the home Saturday Aril 1, 1933, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. J.T. O'Neill was in charge of the services and interment was in the Miller cemetery.
