Blue Valley Blade, Seward, NE, Thur, Jan 19, 1950 ------------------------------------ Clayton Douglas Stoddard was born in Woodstock, Vermont on May 21, 1875 and died in Hastings, Nebr. on January 9, 1950, aged 74 years, 7 months and 19 days. He was the son of Lyman and Rhoda Stoddard (nee Douglas). When a young man he lived several years in Colorado then moved to Iowa. On Jan. 3, 1898 he was united in marriage to Miss Emily Mae Weilenman at Red Oak, Iowa. To this union eight children were born, one died in infancy. In 1905 Mr. Stoddard moved with his family to Seward where he resided until about 2 1/2 years ago when he went to live with his son Lester in Alexander City, Alabama. He joined the Seventh Day Adventist Church in 1931 and was a faithful member until he became ill about a year ago. He leaves to mourn his passing seven children, Elwin of Hastings; Raymond of Red Oak, Iowa; Lester of Alexander City, Ala.; Mrs. Charles Meinnert of Tucson, Ariz.; Mrs. Paul Showalter of Patagonia, Ariz.; Mrs. William Abele, Tumacacori, Ariz.; Mrs. Wesley Stoddard, Wink, Texas, and Mrs. George Bergantzel of Seward; also two sisters, Mrs. Cynthia Weilenman of Red Oak, Iowa and Mrs. H. B. Larson of Sherman, N.Y.; 22 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren His funeral was held at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Thursday January 12 with burial in the North cemetery.
