Lemke was born on June 6, 1937 in Clear Lake, SD the son of Edward and Alta (Struss) Lemke. Clayton received his education in Clear Lake, SD. Clayton was united in marriage to Lou Ann Colonna on May 6, 1961 in Lake Benton, MN. From 1961 until 1970 he was employed at SDSU Physical Plant. He then was employed with the City of Brookings until 1978. In 1978, they moved to Custer, SD and lived there until 1985, when they moved back to Brookings. Clayton was then employed at SDSU Housing for several years before going back to the Physical Plant. In 1988, he retired from SDSU. Clayton is survived by his wife, Lou Ann of Brookings, SD; one son, Timothy (Connie) Lemke of Bruce, SD; one daughter, Kimberly Compton of Brookings, SD; four grandchildren, JD Compton, Ashely, Holly and Trey Lemke; one brother, Marlo (Sylvia) of Aurora, SD and two sisters, Marcile (Virgil) Djonne and Junice (Doug) McKee all of Clear Lake, SD.
