Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2015, at New Hope Lutheran Church in Hayti. Pastor Randy Eisenbeisz will officiate. Music will be provided by Helen Prouty as organist. Visitation will be at the Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and prior to services in the church on Thursday. Active pallbearers will be Clayton’s Grandson’s: Jason Stormo, Damon Stormo, Ryan Stormo, Justin Benthin, Jeremy Benthin, Cody Sumner, Billy Larson, KC Larson, and Arte Larson. Clayton was born on March 21, 1932, at their farmstead home in Oxford Township, rural Hayti, to Selmer and Emma (Stormo) Larson. He was baptized and confirmed at New Hope Lutheran Church. He attended rural Oxford School #6 until fifth grade. The family then moved to Hayti Township and he graduated from Hayti High School in 1950. After graduation, Clayton went to Agricultural School at South Dakota State College in Brookings, SD. He then served from 1952 to 1954 in the Korean War. After his service, he was honorably discharged from the United States Army. On June 21, 1954, Clayton married Charlotte Danielson at New Hope Lutheran Church in Hayti. They moved onto their present farmstead in 1956, in rural Hayti, where they have lived until summer 2014, when they moved into the town of Hayti. They received the Quasquicentennial Century Farm Certificate. He was active in several community and farming organizations in Hayti. Clayton was a lifetime member, and held many offices in New Hope Lutheran Church. He enjoyed old cars, and was especially proud of his 1927 Studebaker. He liked to restore old vehicles and tractors, and loved learning the history and origins of coins. Clayton and Charlotte loved taking road trips and exploring many historical buildings. Clayton liked attending his grandchildren’s activities, playing cards, especially pinochle, and he loved spending time with friends, and family, especially his grandchildren. Clayton is survived by his loving wife, Charlotte; four sons: Steven (Rhonda) Larson, Hayti, Paul Larson, Hayti, Scott (Leigh Anne) Larson, Mitchell, SD, and Brent (Nikki) Larson, Hayti; three daughters: Joan (Kevin) Stormo, Lake Norden, SD, Kay (Steve) Jorenby, Brookings, SD, and Lori (Brett) Sumner, Summit, SD; 20 grandchildren: Jason, Damon, Ryan, Shannon, Sandra, Christi, Kelli, Justin, Jolynn, Jeremy, Cody, Tara, Kerri, Katie, Riley, Bailey, Aireal, Billy, KC, and Arte; 24 great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Pat) Larson, Hayti; two sisters: Oral Svarvari, and Elaine (Clif) Corey both, Bryant, SD; two brothers-in-law: Lloyd Kucker, Mitchell, and Charles (Judy) Danielson, Rye, NH; one sister-in-law, Helen Prouty, Hayti; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers: Hans, Sherman, and one infant brother LaMont; three sisters: Bernice, Mildred, and one infant sister Nona; and several in-laws.
