Cumby Family Funeral Service, 1015 Eastchester, High Point, NC 27262 is handling arrangements. Mr. Conté was born August 1, 1918 in Austin, TX, the son of the late Segismondo R. Conté and Grace (Gloyd) Conté Rindsig. He was a graduate of Spencer High School and continued his education at Iowa State University, where he met and married Betty Cameron on June 1, 1940. In 1947, Mr. Conté founded and operated Marshall Concrete Products until he sold the business in 1998. He was an Army Air Corps (U.S. Air Force) Veteran serving his country during WWII as a B-24 Lead Crew Pilot of the 701st Squadron of the 445th Bomb Group in the 2nd division of the Eighth Air Force. Mr. Conté was a member of the Elks Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Post 839, a life member of the American Trap Shooting Association, and a member of the First Congregational Church, all in Marshalltown, IA. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club and Emmanuel Lutheran Church, all in High Point, NC. In addition to his wife, Mr. Conté is survived by two daughters, Samantha Wagaman and husband, Kenn of St. Charles, MN, and Susan Atherton and husband, David of Renner, SD; a grandson, Kurt Wagaman and wife, Ann of St. Charles, MN; two great grandchildren, Cole and Grace Wagaman of St. Charles, MN; two step-children, Larry Leal and wife, Janet, and Carol Henderson and husband, Tony all of Houston, TX; and four step-grandchildren, Scott Schooler of San Diego, CA, Craig Schooler of Seattle, WA, Mark Schooler, and Adam Henderson both of Houston, TX. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty (Cameron) Conté in 1993, a sister, Cleo (Conté) Johnston; step-father, Nels Rindsig; five Rindsig siblings; and an infant grandson, Jeffrey Wagaman. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum, PO Box 1992, Savannah, GA 31402.
