Description	:	In the 1840's the French settlement included Louis Trudeau, Jean Baptiste Lamoureaux, Joseph Velandres (Valandry), Peter Livermore and well known Indian names as LeClair, La Frambois and other Canadians, half breeds and Indians. The French Village was a collection of Canadian trappers and traders that came to Hamburg in the 1830's to trade furs with the Indians. The French Village was a collection of Canadian trappers and traders that came to Hamburg in the 1830's to trade furs with the Indians. The area laid along the east side of the Nishnabotna River, the NE corner of present day Hamburg. Clement was from St. Joseph, Missouri. He traveled up the Missouri River to Old Fort Kearney (Nebraska City). Clement was a fur trader and freighter from St Joseph to Kearny to Laramie to Salt Lake to Denver, first using oxen then switching to faster mules for his many wagons. Living in Denver he mined and found gold in Colorado and filed for possession. As a early inhabitant of Denver he purchased several lots. He was a short, stocky handsome man, of French-Canadian derivation. He married at 27 in 1862 to Louise Bordeaux, and again in 1870 at 35 to Therese Sarah LeClair Valandre, both wives were half breed Sioux. He accidentally shot himself in the head and survived, wearing a silver plate over the wound, but succumbed to a tumor there a few years later. He died a rich man and left inheritance to his many children by Louise, as she died seven years before him in 1890. Clement Lamoreaux married Sarah in 1870, presumably only to help her raise the children because after his marriage to Sarah, Clement had several more children with his first wife, whom he never divorced, and Sarah never had any children after the Vetal born seven months after the death of her husband, Joseph. Sarah and Clement were the same age, while her first husband was 28 years her senior. Since Sarah and Clement never had any children, it appears to have been only a marriage of convenience for Sarah and her children. Sarah LeClaire lived circa 1880 at Rosebud Agency, South Dakota, USA. She was listed as "mother" and residing in the home of Peter Valandry on the U.S. Indian Census Rolls taken on July 1, 1890 at Pine Ridge Indian, Porcupine District, Shannon Co., South Dakota, USA. Clement Lamoreaux died a wealthy man, in 1897, from his businesses and ownership in Denver, and gold from his mining in Colorado. Since Sarah signed away any inheritance, the children of Clement's first wife inherited a great deal.
