Description	:	Cleo Adella (Kaufman) Jorgensen of Sioux Falls, formerly of Freeman, passed away at the Dougherty Hospice House on April 3, 2016 at the age of 94. Cleo was born to Bernard T. and Amelia (Miller) Kaufman on May 29, 1921 on a farm near Marion, South Dakota. Pastor P.R. Schroeder baptized Cleo in the Salem Mennonite Church on October 18, 1936. Cleo was born to Bernard T. and Amelia (Miller) Kaufman on May 29, 1921 on a farm near Marion, South Dakota. Pastor P.R. Schroeder baptized Cleo in the Salem Mennonite Church on October 18, 1936. Cleo was a devoted life-long member of the church and enjoyed many years of teaching Sunday School, Bible School and being involved in many church activities including Women’s Mission Society and Swan Lake Christian Camp. Cleo graduated from Freeman Academy in 1939 and attended Freeman Junior College. She taught in rural schools for a number of years, and with her sister, Violet ran the store in Wolf Creek Colony. On September 12, 1948, she married Leon A. Jorgensen of Viborg, SD. They moved to a farm east of Freeman and remained there for 58 years. They were blessed with three children–June Nancy (died in infancy), Brenda and Cynthia. Cleo loved life on the farm and eagerly participated in all aspects of farm life...except milking cows. When she married Leon, her mother told her, “Don’t learn how to milk the cows or else you will be doing it all the time.” So she never did! Cleo had a zest and passion for life that allowed her to make friends easily. She loved entertaining and socializing–her wit, sense of humor and excellent cooking made everyone feel welcome. She was tenaciously independent and willing to try any new adventure, including white water rafting in Alaska (when she was 84 years old!) and taking up golf at the age of 65! Leon and Cleo enjoyed traveling and visited all 50 states, the Panama Canal, and the Bahamas. She also traveled to Europe with her cousin. A highlight of their travels was their five-week honeymoon to the West Coast and Mexico. Cleo had many hobbies that kept her busy. She was an excellent seamstress and one of her favorite pastimes was quilting. Cleo made a special quilt for each grandchild and great-grandchild to cherish as a reminder of her love and devotion for them. In 2005, Leon and Cleo moved to Trail Ridge Retirement Community in Sioux Falls. She was very involved with many of the activities at Trail Ridge and lived independently until February of this year. Cleo leaves behind many dear friends she made in the ten years she lived there. Left to cherish her memory and celebrate her life are her two daughters, Brenda (Craig) Gust of Maple Grove, MN and Cindy (Leland) Aman of Sioux Falls; six grandchildren: Tiffany (Max) Duque; Amber and Ryan Gust; Courtney (Jen), Kelsey and Ashton (Lea) Aman; and six great grandchildren: Deja, Daxon, Sienna, Cole, Emilio, and Cason. Her sister Irene (Jake) Gross, sister-in-law Evelyn Jensen and brothers-in-law Waldo (Marilyn) Jorgensen and Kenneth (Belva) Jorgensen. Cleo was preceded in death by her husband, Leon; infant daughter, June Nancy; her parents; her brother, Eugene Kaufman, and her sister, Violet Kaufman.
