LUCILLE EPLEY Mrs. Lucille Cleo Epley, 71 years of age, 7 months and 30 days, of Sterling, Nebr., died very suddenly at her home on Thursday evening, August 30, 1979. She was born December 31, 1907 in Table Rock, Nebraska. She was baptized in the Methodist Church. She attended Table Rock High School. After graduation taught rural school for one year. On August 17, 1927, John Epley and Cleo Shepherd were united in marriage at Pawnee City, Nebraska and all their fifty-two years of their married lives has been spent in Johnson County. They farmed near Elk Creek, Nebraska until moving to the Sterling area. Cleo was a member of the United Methodist Church of Sterling, Nebraska and was a very active member of the United Methodist Church women. She was a member of the Sterling Women's Club, Fairview Acme Extension Club and Senior Citizens. Survivors include her husband John, five daughters: Mrs. David A. (Darlene) Schuster; Mrs. Francis (Marilyn) Van Groningen; and Mrs. Gary (Doris) Behrens, all of Sterling, Neb.; Mrs. Ronald (Janet) Lubber of Lincoln, Nebr., and Mrs. Marvin (Janice) Hestermann of Firth, Nebr.; 17 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. One brother, Marvin Shepherd of Waverly, Nebr.; one sister, Mrs. Lulu Beebe of Leavenworth, Ks., one sister-in-law, Mrs. Bernice Shepherd of Broken Bow, Nebr., and many nieces and nephews. Her parents Mr. and Mrs. William Shepherd, two brothers, three sisters and one grandson preceded her in death. Her main interest were her family and grandchildren, she was always willing to give a helping hand to others. She also enjoyed sewing, flowers, gardening, knitting and crocheting. She will be greatly missed by relatives, neighbors and friends. Services were conducted by Pastor Vaughn Leaming and Pastor Earl Cochran Monday morning, September 3, in the United Methodist Church of Sterling, Nebraska, and burial was in Sterling cemetery. Organist, Mrs. Orvene Wilson and soloist Walter Zink.
