Description	:	Janice Fay Epley Hestermann, 78, of Firth, died at her home on Saturday night, May 6, 2017. She was born on February 3, 1939 in Pawnee City to John and Cleo (Shepherd) Epley. She was brought to the Lord through Holy Baptism on August 27, 1939 at the Methodist Church in Elk Creek by Pastor J.C. Street. She joined St. John Lutheran Church on May 3, 1957 and re-affirmed her faith through confirmation by Rev. Longholz in Sterling. Read More	Janice Fay Epley Hestermann, 78, of Firth, died at her home on Saturday night, May 6, 2017. She was born on February 3, 1939 in Pawnee City to John and Cleo (Shepherd) Epley. She was brought to the Lord through Holy Baptism on August 27, 1939 at the Methodist Church in Elk Creek by Pastor J.C. Street. She joined St. John Lutheran Church on May 3, 1957 and re-affirmed her faith through confirmation by Rev. Longholz in Sterling. Her confirmation verse was John 11:25-26, “Whoever believes in me will live, even though he dies and whoever believes in me will never die.” Janice attended rural school in Elk Creek and Sterling. She graduated from Sterling High School with a teaching certificate and taught rural school for one year. On May 18, 1957, she married Marvin Louis Hestermann at St. John Lutheran Church in Sterling. They lived in Clarkesville, TN while Marvin was in the 101st Airborne in Fort Campbell Kentucky. To this union, four children were born. Janice retouched negatives for Evans, Arthur, Owen and Hamilton Photography until color pictures came in. She baked many cakes for all occasions over the years. She was a Blue Bird Leader and a Firth softball coach. She was fortunate to work at a job she loved for 44 years at Norris Public Schools. She was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell for many years and wore many hats. In her free time, she enjoyed playing cards, especially Pinochle. She belonged to many clubs and even joined a bowling league. She enjoyed her family and especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in all of their activities. Most of all she enjoyed spending a week with her grandkids in the summer. The grandkids especially loved spending time with her and eating the wantons she made. She also enjoyed spending time with friends and relatives and attending family reunions. Survivors include her children, Sharon (Mike) Schnitker of Omaha, Cynthia (Steve) Bottger of Lincoln, Vicky (Alan) Benson of Sterling and Marvin (Jen) Hestermann of Firth; seven grandchildren, Joachim (Kim) Davis of Martell, Josalynn Kennell of Lincoln, Matt Brisson and special friend Megan of Omaha, Blake Brisson and special friend Nicole of Omaha, Shane Benson and special friend Heather of Lincoln and Emily and Addison Hestermann of Firth; seven great-grandchildren, Kassidy, Hunter and J.J. Davis of Martell, Annysia, Zachyus and Jaydn Kennell of Lincoln and Auroura Jane Brisson of Omaha; three step-grandchildren, Nate, Marc and McKenzie Schnitker; four sisters, Darlene Schuster, Marilyn Van Groningen, Doris (Gary) Behrens and Janet (Ron) Lubben; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Cleo Epley; husband Marvin; one son-in-law, Jeff Brisson; two grandsons, Samuel Hestermann and Cory Benson; one great-granddaughter, Autumn Marie Brisson; two brothers-in-law, David Schuster and Cob Van Groningen. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Christ Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell with Pastor Heather Brown officiating. A family prayer service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday in the basement of the church. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Adams from 8:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday and at the church one hour preceding the service on Thursday. The family will meet and greet relatives and friends at the Fox Funeral Home in Adams from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday. Cremation will follow the service and inurnment of the cremains will be held at a later day at the Sterling Cemetery of Sterling. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to SIDS, St. Jude and Christ Lutheran Church with Terry and Jodi Johnsen in charge. www.foxfuneral.home.net.
