T. J. Giblett. (Clifford, age 22, of South Bend, and Marie, age 20, of New Carlisle). Wittnesses were Mr. and Mrs. Edward Upham. ----------------------------------- Their marriage announcement was published in "The South Bend Tribune", South Bend, IN on Aug. 12, 1912, page 9, and again on Aug. 13, 1912, page 2, and their "marriage license" notice on page 15. Clifford's wife is listed as "Marie" Wenger in these. At the time of their marriage, Clifford was employed at the Mishawaka Woolen Manufacturing Co. ---------------------------------- The children of Clifford H. Upham and his wife Florence Marie Wenger are: ------------- 1. Florence "JANETTE" Upham, of Buchanan, Michigan. b. March 25, 1913, in Mishawaka, IN. She graduated from the Buchanan High School in 1931. m. Clifford Weber Scameheorn, on Aug. 9, 1931, in St. Joseph Co. IN. They lived in Centerville, St. Joseph County Michigan in 1940, and in Buchanan, Michigan in 1966. Children: Marguerite/Mickey, Eugene/Gene, Sally/Sarah Jane, John W., Edward/Eddie, Lee, and Rick. d. June 27, 2009, in Berrien Co. MI. Buried: Oak Ridge Cemetery. ---------------------------------- 2. James Clifford Upham. b. Jan. 18, 1915, in Indiana. m. Evelyn Gertrude Villwock. The 1930 MI census, shows James living in Bertrand, Berrien County Michigan, with his parents. James lived in Dayton, Ohio in 1966. d. Aug. 11, 1985, in Sarasota, Florida. ---------------------------------- 3. Robert Warren Upham. b. Dec. 30, 1916, Berrien Springs, MI. m. In 1938 he married Helen Claudine Villwock (1918-2011), the daughter of Fredrick and Gertrude Villwock. Children: Neil, Rita, Shirley, Jacquelyn, Sharon, Gale, Marcia, Michelle, and Debbie Upham. They lived in Niles, MI in 1940, with their daughter Rita. He lived in Jackson, MI in 1966. d. Sept. 7, 1977, in Jackson, Jackson County Michigan. Buried: Roseland Memorial Gardens, in Jackson, Michigan (in "Devotion 138-D, Space 1"). ----------------------------------- 4. Elaine Marie Upham. b. Oct. 10, 1919, in Buchanan, MI. d. Feb. 7, 1923, in Buchanan, MI. (Died at 3 years and 4 months). Buried: Oak Ridge Cemetery (with her parents, in Section A, Lot 152). -------------------------------- 5. Theadore E. ("Ted") Upham. b. July 28, 1922, in Buchanan, Michigan. Ted graduated from the Buchanan High School in 1938-39. (See his photo in the 1939 yearbook). He was a charter member of the Pi Tau Sigma engineering fraternity at the University of Michigan. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a Mechanical Engineering degree, and worked in Jackson, MI for 47 years, earning several patents in his field. He served in the Army in WWII as a paratrooper in the 13th Airborne, stationed in France. He met and married a young French woman, and they were married for 62 years. m. Marguerite ("Mickey") Louise Queyrat, on Aug. 23, 1947. They had five children. They lived in Jackson, Michigan. d. Nov. 25, 2009, age 87, in Jackson, Jackson County Michigan. Ted was cremated, per his wishes. An obituary (with photo), for Theadore was published in the "Jackson Citizen Patriot" newspaper, in Jackson, Michigan on Nov. 29, 2009. --------------------------------- 6. Richard Allen Upham. b. April 30, 1926, in Berrien Co. MI. m. Betty Lou Cecrle, on April 15, 1955. He lived in South Bend, IN in 1966. d. Sept. 1984, in Indiana, age 58. Buried: St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, in Granger, St. Joseph Co. IN. --------------------------------- 7. Donald Lee Upham. b. "about" 1929 (or 1933), in Michigan. m. Joan Elizabeth Lovell. They both graduated from the University of Michigan, class of 1958. He lived in Los Alamos, New Mexico in 1966. d. about 2007, in Bernalillo Co. New Mexico. _________________________________ The following obituary for Clifford H. Upham, was published in the "Niles Daily Star" newspaper, in Niles, MI on Wed. March 9, 1966, Page 2, Col. 6: --- CLIFFORD H. UPHAM. BUCHANAN - Clifford H. Upham, 73, of 3635 W. Bertrand Road, died at 12:15 a.m. today in his home, the victim of an apparent heart attack. Mr. Upham, who retired from service with the Clark Equipment Company in 1957, was born July 12, 1892 in New Carlisle, Ind. He married Florence Marie Wenger of Mishawaka Aug. 10, 1912. She survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Clifford [Florence Janette] Scameheorn, Buchanan, five sons, James B., Dayton, Ohio, Robert W. and Theodore E., both of Jackson, Richard A., South Bend, and Donald L., Los Alamos, N.M.; a sister, Mrs. Clara Dragoo, St. Joseph; 29 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the Swem Funeral Home here. The Rev. Albert A. Fall, pastor of the First Evangelical United Brethren Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
