Description	:	Clifford L. (Cliff) Schmidt was born in Holyoke, Colorado on August 23, 1926. He was the second of four sons born to Otto A. and Mabel F.(Lynch) Schmidt. He passed away Thursday, June 2, 2005, at the Wray Community Hospital. Cliff spent his youth in the Wages Community, attending Holyoke High School, but was drafted in to the Army during World War II. (Cliff) Schmidt was born in Holyoke, Colorado on August 23, 1926. He was the second of four sons born to Otto A. and Mabel F.(Lynch) Schmidt. He passed away Thursday, June 2, 2005, at the Wray Community Hospital. Cliff spent his youth in the Wages Community, attending Holyoke High School, but was drafted in to the Army during World War II. During the war he served in the Philippines and was a part of the occupation troops in Japan. Cliff was awarded his high school diploma at the 2003 Graduation Ceremony for Holyoke High along with several other veterans. He married Dorothy (Dottie) Spellman on April 26, 1947, in Paoli, Colorado. To this union, two children were born, Jim and Lois. In 1955, the family moved to Washington state where they made their home in the Wenatchee River Valley until the fall of 2004, when they moved to Wray. Cliff had several different careers from large construction projects to cabinet maker. He helped build grain elevators in Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado, and in Washington, he worked on Rocky Reach Dam on the Columbia River. He also owned and operated a Texaco Full Service Gas Station. He then returned to the trade of a carpenter and custom cabinet maker, owning and operating Cascade Cabinets. Cliff and Dottie were very active in the Monitor United Methodist Church in Monitor, Washington. Anything that needed repaired or built, Cliff was the man for the job. They loved to square dance and traveled all over the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia, Canada. Cliff not only loved to square dance, he also was a very good dance caller. Cliff enjoyed playing golf when he was able, teaching his son and daughter to play, and his grandkids when they were old enough. His granddaughter qualified for the Colorado State Girl's Golf Tournament two times. He took great pleasure watching his grandkids grow spending summers doing activities, from building projects to selling fruit at a fruit stand, with each and everyone of them. He especially liked going fishing with the male members of his family (son, grandsons, brothers, brothers-in-law and nephews) at the infamous Schmidt Rendezvous. Cliff was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Otto T. Schmidt and wife Thelma; parents-in-law, E.T. (Bud) and Lois Spellman; brother-in-law, Cleo Brown; and sister-in-law, Sharon Spellman. He is survived by his wife, Dottie of 58 years; son, Jim and wife Brenda Schmidt; daughter, Lois Gonzalez all of Wray; grandkids, Jason and wife Jennie Schmidt of Wray, Ryan Schmidt of Parker, CO, Erika Schmidt of Ft. Collins, CO, David and Mikey Gonzalez of Wray; brothers, Chuck and wife Minnie Schmidt of Haxtun, CO, and Bill and wife Carol Schmidt of Holyoke, CO; brothers-in-law, George and wife Lois Spellman of Kirk, CO, Ralph and wife LeAnn Spellman, Tom and wife Margaret Spellman, and Bob and wife Patty Spellman all of Yuma, CO; sisters-in-law, Jennie Brown of Yuma, CO and Peggy Spellman of Wray, CO; and a host of nieces and nephews and many friends. Funeral Services were held June 6, 2005, at the Wray First Christian Church, Rev. Steve Wynkoop officiating. Interment followed in the Grandview Cemetery. Arrangements were by Spellman-Schmidt Funeral Home of Wray , Colorado. Memorial services will be held Saturday, July 9, 2005, at 10:00 a.m. at the Monitor United Methodist Church.
