Read More	Holyoke Enterprise, Holyoke, Colorado, August 26, 1982 SERVICES FOR CLIFFORD GUERNSEY HELD Clifford LaVern Guernsey, the son of Charles Arthur and Lucy Fay Thompson Guernsey, was born on a farm in Phillips County on October 29, 1922. He passed from this life while a patient at Porter Memorial Hospital in Denver from complications following heart by-pass surgery. He had been a patient in the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital for nearly a month. Cliff and Mable Ilene Thatcher were united in marriage in April 5, 1942 at Imperial, Nebraska. They became the parents of three children, Ganita, LeRoy and Lynn. Clifford lived as a boy on a farm south of Holyoke where he attended school at Lakeside Elementary and Phillips County High School. Following his marriage to Ilene, Cliff became a mechanic which was to become his trade. He worked in Holyoke, Douglas, Wyoming and was working for the City and County of Denver when his health forced him to retire in 1977. Cliff really loved people. Much of his interest was spent in working with people. In the 1950s he managed a softball team in Holyoke, which after following a losing season, became the area champions the next season. Clifford Guernsey was baptized into Christ at the First Christian Church in Holyoke in 1957. He became actively involved in teaching Sunday School classes and serving as youth sponsor for many years. He also served the Church as an elder for a number of years until his health would not permit him to be active. He was still an influential part of the First Christian Church up to the time of his death. Following their retirement from the City and County of Denver he and Ilene moved to Peterson, Iowa where they served as house parents at Midwest Christian Children's Home for two years. Following their ministry there they moved back home to Holyoke where they were living at the time of his death. Cliff enjoyed hunting, fishing and just being out-of-doors. When his health failed he particularly enjoyed reading, listening to gospel music and tapes and visiting shut-ins. Clifford L. Guernsey was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Charles and Melvin. He is survived by his wife Ilene of Holyoke; two sons, Leroy and wife Linda of Broken Bow, Nebraska and Lynn and his wife Helen of Dallas, Texas; one daughter Ganita and her husband Al Budd of Denver; 15 grandchildren 1 great grandchild; five brothers, Burl of Las Cruces, new Mexico, Wayne of Bethany, Missouri, Don of Stratton, Bob of Carl Junction, Missouri and Bud of Bennett; 1 sister Lenore Salvador of Yuma; numerous nieces and nephews and cousins; plus a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted from First Christian Church on Thursday, August 19, 1982, with James Mort officiating. Evelyn Keasling played the organ while Bette McCormick and Velva Heimer sang. Burial is in the Holyoke Cemetery.
