Cliff was born July 11, 1919, in Upland, Nebraska to Ernest and Bertha (Lammers) Fries. On May 31, 1941, he married Mildred Splattstoesser in Franklin, Nebraska. He grew up in the Upland, Nebraska area and graduated from Campbell, Nebraska High School. In 1965, he and his family moved into Minden. Upon moving to Minden, he worked for Piester Manufacturing and then Continental Grain until his retirement. Inspecting and filling fire extinguishers was a business he also enjoyed for many years. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minden, Nebraska. In December 2008, after an accident with a lawn mower, he moved to Long Term Care to live with the love of his life. He enjoyed his garden, his workshop, his basement full of endless activities, wood projects of Herbie Husker and tractor rain gauges. There was nothing mechanically that he couldn't build or fix. He took great pride in his family. As much love as he had for his whole family, he really enjoyed his three youngest granddaughters. He never knew a stranger and could always be found out visiting with someone. As a resident of Long Term Care, he enjoyed playing in the Golden Angels Band. Survivors include his son, Bill Fries and his wife, Diane, of Franklin, Nebraska; daughter, Marcie Knispel and her husband, Mike, of Minden, Nebraska; and special friends and neighbors, Karl and Marlene Detmers of Minden, Nebraska.
