He died Saturday, Dec. 27, 1986 at the Huron Nursing Home. Clifford M. Johnson was born May 23, 1905 at Woonsocket, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred (Carrie Rosetta McCloud) Johnson. He was raised in Jerauld and Hand County. He and Anna M. Nelson were married at her home June 1, 1932 and lived on the present farm all of their married life. He has farmed, owned and operated the Johnson Café in Miller for five years and an antique business at his farm, which was recently moved to Miller. He was a member of the United Methodist church serving as president of the Methodist Men and was on the administrative and ministerial boards; the Golden Years Club and the Senior Citizens of Miller. He served as chairman of the Crop Improvement Association; chairman of the Hand county Farmers Union; chairman of the Triple A (later became the PMA which is now the ASC); chairman of the Marketing Quota Review Commission; Master of the Hand County grange; served on the Ohio Township Board for 27 years; served on the school board for 26 years; served as Ohio Township Assessor; served as precinct committeeman on the farm program for 20 years; was active in the Democratic party, serving as county chairman township committeeman and served as a field man for Senator George McGovern;; was active in the 4-H program, was Democratic candidate for State Representative I 1960; was a conservationist and was one of the first in hand county to plant a shelter-belt; won first in Hand County for the "Home Improvement Program" sponsored by WNAX and the State Extension Service at Brookings State College in 1947 and had many hobbies. He is survived by his wife, Anna, Miller; a son and daughter-in-law; James and Virginia Johnson, Leavenworth, KS; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherrie and John Danielson, Portland, OR; two grandsons, ____ Meyer and ____ Johnson; three granddaughters, ______ Johnson, ___ Johnson and ____ Meyer; two great-granddaughters, ____ and ____ Johnson; one brother-in-law, Harold and Alice Johnson, Hemet, CA; one sister and brother-in-law, Florence and John Williams, spearfish, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
