Burial was in Quimby Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Lyle W. Barnes Post 398 and V.F.W. L.A. Wescott Post 2253. Cliff was born on August 7, 1920 at Mortlach, Saskatchewan, Canada to Forrest & Mildred (Barnes) Stevenson. They moved to Cherokee when Cliff was very young, and he spent most of his adult years in Quimby, Iowa until retiring in 1999. Since then he has lived in Cherokee and Holstein. In 1942, Cliff enlisted in the United States Army and served in both Europe and the Philippines during World War II until his honorable discharge in 1946. He was an active and proud member of the American Legion for over 60 years. Cliff was united in marriage to Ruth Elsie Klingborg on January 20, 1951, in Quimby, and they were faithfully together for over 61 years. To this union, two sons, Daniel and David, were born. Cliff owned and operated several businesses in Quimby including Stevenson Bros. Trucking, Stevenson Garage, Stevenson Implement, and Stevenson Hardware with Elsie faithfully by his side to help him manage. Cliff also had the assistance of his Pomeranians, Bobbie, Bobby, and Bobby in operating the hardware store. His favorite “little helpers” at the hardware store were his grandsons (Davey, Brandon, AJ, and Shelby). Cliff regularly entertained the customers by toting his grandsons on the two-wheel cart around the store. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Vernon and Dick, and brother-in-law Jim Ball. Cliff is survived by his wife, Elsie of Holstein; his sons Dan (Jill) of Des Moines and Dave (Bonnie) of Holstein; six grandchildren, Davey (Roxy), Brandon (Shanade), AJ (Kim), Shelby (Sasha), Skylar, and Kolby all of Holstein; three great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Aiden, Trinity, and one additional great grand-daughter on the way; a sister, Betty Ball of Shelton, Nebraska; a sister-in-law Betty (Dick) Stevenson of Quimby, and several nieces and nephews.
