Description	:	Note: Clifford died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the office of Sidwell Ice Cream retail store in Fairfield, Iowa, where he worked for several years. The initial story about his death was published in the Fairfield Daily Ledger on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 1951, Page 1 Col. 7. The bulk of the text is too graphic for transcription onto this memorial. The following is excerpted: "....Brown had worked for the ice cream firm for the past several years, while it was still owned by R. R. Rider, Fairfield, and operated as the Rimac Dairy company, and more recently for the Sidwll Ice Cream company which purchased the business from Rider. He was employed in the wholesale department as deliveryman. Before starting his work at the dairy Brown owned and operated the Maid Rite sandwich shop here in Fairfield. Clifford Weatherholt Brown was born September 2, 1898, in Indiana, the son of the late Harvey and Mary Davis Weatherholt. He came to this community when a small child and had made his home here since. He was united in marriage on December 21, 1918 to Gladys St. Clair who survives. The wedding took place in Fairfield. Brown was a member of the First Methodist church and the Masons. Besides his wife, he is survived by two children; Mrs. J. B. Curran, Ottumwa, and Don at home. He is also survived by two grand-children and two brothers, Walter Brown, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Louis Weatherholt, Booneville, Ind. The body is at the Hoskins funeral home where last rites are pending." ---------------------- Fairfield Daily Ledger Thursday August 23, 1951 Pg. 8 Col 5 Brown Funeral Will Be Held Tomorrow Funeral services for Clifford W. Brown will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Methodist church in charge of the Rev. S. P. Williamson. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. Brown, 52, died yesterday of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The body is at the Hoskins Funeral home. It will be removed to the Methodist church at 1:30 p.m.
