Description	:	Clifford Wilmer Carey was born July 29, 1911, at Burlingame, Kansas. He was the son of Albert P. and Constance Josephine (Burton) Carey. A lifelong resident, he made his home in Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas, until his death Thursday, January 3, 2002, at the age of ninety years old. He was employed as a machinist for Hercules Sunflower Ammunition Plant, DeSoto, for twenty years, retiring in 1975. Read More	Clifford Wilmer Carey was born July 29, 1911, at Burlingame, Kansas. He was the son of Albert P. and Constance Josephine (Burton) Carey. A lifelong resident, he made his home in Ottawa, Franklin County, Kansas, until his death Thursday, January 3, 2002, at the age of ninety years old. He was employed as a machinist for Hercules Sunflower Ammunition Plant, DeSoto, for twenty years, retiring in 1975. He had previously worked as a machinist for Baldwin Ward, Warner's Steel and Ottawa Steel, all of Ottawa, and Beach & Boeing in Wichita, during World War II, from 1942 to 1945. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Ottawa; International Association of Machinists; and Aerospace Workers, Kansas City, Missouri. He enjoyed woodworking and listening to music. In fact, he was a big fan of Lawrence Welk. He liked to go places, as long as they weren't too far away, and was always happy to return to his home. Clifford's greatest enjoyment, however, came from his family and grandchildren and spending time with them. On December 2, 1936, Clifford was united in marriage with Lois Brubaker at Garnett, Kansas. They have celebrated 65 years of marriage. She survives of their home. Also, surviving are his daughter, Marlene Ferguson and her husband, Fred, of Ottawa, Kansas; two sons, Lawrence Carey and his wife, Elaine, of Moberly, Missouri, Richard Carey and his wife, Pat, of Osage City, Kansas; eight grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard M. Carey; and sister, Olive Gooddale. SERVICES: Funeral services will be held from the Dengel & Son Mortuary 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2002. OFFICIATING CLERGY: Rev. Francis Stockton. IN STATE: Mr. Carey will lie in state at the Dengel & Son Mortuary after 5:00 p.m. Saturday to the service hour, where the family will meet with friends 7 to 8:00 Monday evening. CEMETERY: Woodlawn Cemetery, Pomona, Kansas. MEMORIALS: The family suggests memorials to Trinity United Methodist Church, c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067."
