Bishop, 41, prominent Montana publisher and editor and owner of the Hill County Democrat, of Havre, passed away at 5 a.m. today following an operation performed yesterday at a local hospital. Although he had been in poor health for some time past, his death comes as a shock to the community as he virtually 'died in the harness' working up until Wednesday. "Clint" Bishop, as he was known by his associates around town, has been a publisher and owner of the Hill County Democrat for the past four years. Under the Bishop regime the newspaper again prospered. Mr. Bishop was born in Clayton, Clayton county, Iowa on Dec. 9, 1887. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Elkader, Iowa, where they established a home. He entered grade school and remained there until he had completed his high school education. From there he went to Des Moines, Iowa, where he attended Drake University. Shortly after his graduation from Drake, he came to Montana where he established a law office in Great Falls. He built up a successful law practice after being admitted to the bar of the state. Soon after, however, he decided to try his hand at the newspaper business and he, with his brother, Max, purchased the Choteau Acantha, Choteau, Montana. He then moved to Shelby and purchased the Shelby Promoter in 1915. He was editor of the Promoter for five years. Then he moved to Cut Bank where he took over the Cut Bank Pioneer Press and ran that paper for six months before coming to Havre to take over the reins of The Democrat. He was married to Lillian Lepper, Feb. 3, 1916, at Havre. There has been born to this union three children, Clinton, 12, Margaret Ann, 10, and Lawrence, 6. His mother, Mrs. H.C. Bishop, has made her home here for some time, while a sister, Ruth Bishop, is a teacher in Great Falls. He has two other brothers that are living, Max and Arthur. H.C. Bishop, the father, passed away in 1920 and a sister died at infancy.
