Clyde "Junior" Scates, Jr. Born: June 25, 1930 Died: February 02, 2016 Gaffney, SC - - Clyde Scates, Jr., 85, of 210 Van Buren Street, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Mary Black Health System-Gaffney. Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of the late Dorothy Hampton Scates and son of the late Clyde Scates, Sr. and Ruby Turner Scates. Mr. Scates retired from Cherokee Finishing and was a member of Beech Street Presbyterian Church. He was an avid Gaffney Indians and Gamecocks fan and was a former softball player who was inducted into the Cherokee County Softball Hall of Fame. He loved to cut grass, loved his Church and Lord, and loved his family. Surviving are two daughters, Vicki Scates Darr and husband, Dean, of Blacksburg and Marilyn Scates Owens and husband, Doug, of Gaffney; a brother, Pinto Scates of Gaffney; three grandchildren, Jason Owens and wife, Ginger, Summer Ham and husband, Jamie, and Jennie Owens; five great-grandchildren, Jay Tyler Owens, Jaycee Owens, Jake Ham, Jessica Ham and Jase Ham. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Scates. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM on Friday, February 5, 2016 at Blakely Funeral Home. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 PM in the Blakely Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry McKee, Mr. Jason Owens and Rev. Marion Boozer officiating. Interment will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to: Beech Street Presbyterian Church, 1403 Beech Street, Gaffney, SC 29340.
