Description	:	Clyde Paul Simmons was born on December 28, 1925 and passed on November 6, 2015 to be with his Lord Jesus. He was born at Dodge City, Kansas to Clyde and Cora (Bowyer) Simmons and was the third of four children born to this union. Read More	Clyde Paul Simmons was born on December 28, 1925 and passed on November 6, 2015 to be with his Lord Jesus. He was born at Dodge City, Kansas to Clyde and Cora (Bowyer) Simmons and was the third of four children born to this union. He spent his early childhood years on a farm SE of Eads while attending the country schools of Fine Flat and Lake View. His teen years were spent on another farm ten miles south of Eads. The depression of the thirties forced Paul to work on and to keep the family farm going, while his dad was working on the WPA. He graduated from the 8th grade, but because he desired a high school diploma, he later successfully completed the GED course. A couple of the farmers he worked with during this time, and would frequently mention, were Clarence Ransom (when Paul was 14 yrs) and John Weimer at Wiley, CO. When Paul married the love of his life, he was farming on the family homestead and did that for five years before being hired by the Kiowa County Road Department where he worked for four years. After gaining valuable experience there, he was employed by the Colorado State Highway Department, where he put in a total of thirty-one years. In the middle of this employment, he bought and operated the Simmons Grocery Store for a few years and it should be noted Paul worked briefly on the construction of the current Eads high school gym before continuing the career with Colorado State Highway Department. Paul worked with many men on the Colorado State Highway and made lifelong friends with several fellow employees. He was respected for his skill in operating equipment, loyalty to his employer/fellow workers and his determination to do a good job. After his thirty-one years on the Highway Department, he had a short pause in working but felt there must be more to life than "bumming" around on retirement, so he found a second career. He was employed to tend and care for the Pioneer Cemetery. Paul really enjoyed this career and strove to improve the appearance of the grounds. He received many compliments from individuals and the various other mortuaries who provided service there. He had planned to retire a second time in March of 2016. Paul would want those who read this obituary to know he was a Man of Faith. He received Jesus as his Lord and Savior in May of 1951 and never strayed once from his commitment to Jesus. After his conversion, Paul was baptized and hoped this outward sign would create interest in Jesus for those who were in Paul's life. He would faithfully and with joy, take his wife and four children to the Evangelical United Brethren Church every Sunday. He looked forward to fellowship with other born again Christians but especially with his family. Paul served as the Evangelical United Brethren Sunday School Superintendent and also as a Deacon in the First Baptist Church. Even in his advancing age, he found the time and energy to help with the construction of his current church, the Praise Community Church. Paul was an active and dedicated member of the Iron Men Bible Study Group (non-denominational). Paul (and his wife Ellen) took delight in their Christmas display in their yard. It was one of the outward ways they could show the world and celebrate the birth of Jesus. It was Paul's hope the display would create in at least one person, the curiosity to learn about the true meaning of Christmas. Paul was a handy man in his own right and could come up with ingenious ways of fixing and making things whole again. There wasn't anything he enjoyed more than a challenge to find a solution to fix those little things around the home. He was a hard worker, regardless of the task and dedicated to the work at hand. He never wanted to leave a job unfinished. He was more than willing to lend a hand to anyone who might need assistance and especially loved helping his family members. He was a warm person and if he didn't extend his hand to shake, he would give you a big hug. There are NOT words enough to express his love for and to his wife. As one of the relatives would say, Paul puts his wife on a pedestal and has always kept her there. He was a rare breed, especially in today's world, he was a faithful husband, very dedicated and loyal to his wife of nearly seventy-one years and every member of his family. Paul had only one hobby and it was a life-long commitment, to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren! Paul was sailing along in life and was suddenly attacked by a disease that would take his physical life. As in all he did, he fought the good fight and when the time came for him to leave this world, he went to Jesus with open arms. Paul had always been ready for this day, beginning that wonderful evening at the Revival held at the Evangelical United Brethren Church. Praise the Lord! Paul was preceded in death by the passing of his parents, Clyde and Cora Simmons; his oldest sister Mildred Hainer; brother Glen Simmons; and grandson Craig Simmons. Paul is survived by his Wife NAMES OMITTED grand children; great grandchildren; great- great grandchildren; host of relatives; and many friends. Paul had his priorities in order---Jesus, Wife, Family and Church. Rest in peace, good and faithful brother in Christ!
