Also president of various subsidiary corporations connected with the Southern Railway Co.; president Danville & Western Railway Co., Augusta Southern Railroad Co., Blue Ridge Railway Co., Tallulah Falls Railway Co., Hartwell Railway Co.; first vice-president and director Alabama Great Southern R.R. and Northern Alabama Railway Co.; first vice-president Mobile & Ohio Railroad Co., Knoxville & Bristol Ry., Knoxville & Augusta Railway Co., and vice-president Virginia & Southwestern Railway Co.; vice-president and director Citizens National Bank, Raleigh, N.C. Director Sloss-Sheffield Steel and Iron Co., Neuse Manufacturing Co., and North Carolina. Home Insurance Co. Was one of the vice-presidents of the World's Fair at Chicago, 1893. Resided in Grandville County when enlisting into Confederate States army in April 1861 and on May 16, 1861, was made second lieutenant, (Company E., 9th Regiment, 1st North Carolina cavalry). N.C. TROOPS: 1861-1865 Cav. Vol. p.44 (Mike Hollingsworth) Lt. Andrews transferred from Company E of the same regiment to Company B upon appointment as 1st Lieutenant on Sept. 23, 1861. He was promoted to Captain on July 12, 1862. He was shot through the left lung in action at Jack's Shop, Va., Sept. 22, 1863; He was absent sick until retired to Invalid Corps on November 5, 1864. He was paroled at the hospital in Greensboro on May 1, 1865, as a patient. N.C. TROOPS: 1861-1865 Cav. Vol. p.19 (Mike Hollingsworth) In 1876 became a member of staff for Gov. Zeb. B. Vance, with the rank of colonel; continued in this position by Governor Jarvis. Democrat. Episcopalian. Member Chamber of Commerce, Raleigh, N.C. Organized and is president and member board of directors and executive committee of North Carolina Soldiers' Home; member board of trustees and executive committee and finance committee of the University of North Carolina.; Mason and Shriner.
