Description	:	Col Charles E. Balch was born March 17, 1834 in Francestown, New Hampshire, he was the son of well to do parents, Mason and Hannah nee Holt Balch. He came to Manchester and became a bookkeeper in a dry goods store and held that position for 10 years and then became a clerk at the Manchester Bank and the Manchester Savings Bank, when those Banks were succeeded by the Manchester National Bank, he became the cashier. Balch was born March 17, 1834 in Francestown, New Hampshire, he was the son of well to do parents, Mason and Hannah nee Holt Balch. He came to Manchester and became a bookkeeper in a dry goods store and held that position for 10 years and then became a clerk at the Manchester Bank and the Manchester Savings Bank, when those Banks were succeeded by the Manchester National Bank, he became the cashier. He was also Director of the New Hampshire Fire Insurance Company and a Treasurer of the Manchester Gas Light Company. He received his military title of Colonel by serving on the staff of Governor Head. He was also a mason. On July 30, 1867, he married Emeline R. Brooks, of Bath, Maine, the daughter of Rev. Nahum and Rebecca L. Brooks. He died approximately 7 months after his 50th birthday October 18, 1884, from acute bronchitis. The couple had no children.
