John arrived in Nova Scotia about 1760 along with his father and three brothers Peter, William, and Timothy. They were among the original grantees of Horton Township, Kings County, Nova Scotia. John Bishop surveyed Horton Township between 1766 and 1768. John Bishop, Jr. married first Mary (Forsyth) Avery on 16 July 1751 in New London, New London, CT. Mary and John Bishop, Jr. have four children, the first three born in New London and the last in Kings County, Nova Scotia: Ann (m. Charles Dickson, Joseph McLean), Hannah (m. Henry Burbidge), Charles Bishop, and John Bishop. John Bishop, Jr. married second Ruth (Sheffield) (Belcher) Harris on 13 December 1809 in Horton Township. Ruth was the daughter of Joseph Sheffield and the widow of John Belcher and Elisha Harris. John and Ruth Bishop did not have any children. Ruth died 1 September 1827 in her 67th year. John Bishop, Jr. wrote his will on 10 November 1810 in Horton. He made codicils to his will on 4 July 1815 and again on 24 August 1815. Colonel John Bishop died 0n 31 August 1815 in Gaspereau, Kings County, Nova Scotia.
