Description	:	Colette Mary Fitzgerald was born November 25, 1918 at Mayfield, SD to Michael and Nell (Christopher) Fitzgerald. Colette attended country school in the Mayfield area and graduated from Irene High School in 1936. After high school she received her teaching certificate and began teaching in country schools and later in Lesterville, SD. During this time, she met Lawrence "Larry" Kehrwald and on June 23, 1943 they were united in marriage at Lesterville, SD. They made their home in Garretson, SD where they both taught school. Read More	Colette Mary Fitzgerald was born November 25, 1918 at Mayfield, SD to Michael and Nell (Christopher) Fitzgerald. Colette attended country school in the Mayfield area and graduated from Irene High School in 1936. After high school she received her teaching certificate and began teaching in country schools and later in Lesterville, SD. During this time, she met Lawrence "Larry" Kehrwald and on June 23, 1943 they were united in marriage at Lesterville, SD. They made their home in Garretson, SD where they both taught school. Larry was offered a position with the Soil Conservation Service and they moved to Chamberlain, SD where Colette raised their family. When her youngest son began school, Colette returned to teaching. During this time she also continued her education and in 1966, she graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Teaching from Southern State College in Springfield, SD. She continued teaching in the area for many years and in her later years volunteered at the school to teach reading as literacy was very important to her. She enjoyed her time volunteering with the beginning readers. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church and St. James Altar Society of Chamberlain where she was very active for many years in different capacities. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, needle point, and she never had an idle hand when it come to crafting. She was a prolific and precise quilter who took justifiable pride in her quilts. Colette passed away on October 19, 2015 at Sanford Care Center in Chamberlain at the age of 96 years. Gratefully sharing her life are her daughter Cathy Reuer of Chamberlain; three sons Mike Kehrwald and wife Eileen of Cadiz, KY, John Kehrwald and wife DiAnn of Salol, MN, and Kevin Kehrwald and wife Kitty of Ipswich, SD; twelve grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and a sister Eileen Donahue of Wakonda, SD. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; three brothers Claire, Roy, Ken; and a sister Veronica Freimuth
