She was born in Los Angeles, the daughter of Charles Chapman of Rutland, Vermont and Conchita Sepulveda, whose father, Ignacio Sepulveda, was Los Angeles' first Superior Court judge, and whose mother was Herlinda de la Guerra. Both came from distinguished early Santa Barbara families. After the death of Mr. Chapman, Conchita (senior) married Valerio Pignatelli, a Papal Prince and newspaper correspondent, and became titled. Young Conchita attended convent school in Rome. Princess Pignatelli was widowed a second time but went on to have a notable 33-year career as the society columnist for the Los Angeles Examiner and was honored for her many philanthropic, cultural and religious activities. After her debut and graduation, Conchita was married to U.S. Navy Lieutenant Frank G. Raysbrook, which led to a colorful life in a variety of locales including San Diego, Hawaii, Washington D.C., and London. Proud of her California heritage, Conchita returned to the Southland to stay in 1962, residing first in Los Angeles then finally in the San Diego area, but she continued in the family role of supporting the charity and civic endeavors of her mother, including the restoration of Sepulveda House on Olvera Street in Los Angeles, and involvement with First Century Families, descendants of those pioneers who came to Southern California before or during the first hundred years after the founding of the City of Los Angeles in 1781. Conchita was an insatiable reader who often consumed several books at a time, she was bright and poetic, and she delighted in the Chinese game of mah-jong. Most endearing, she excelled in listening to others. Her charming wit, thoughtfulness, and graceful effervescence touched everyone. Her spiritual devotion and acceptance of physical afflictions with humility and amazing courage will be a lifelong inspiration to her friends and family. Conchita is survived by her sisters, Carlota Munroe and Stefania Werner; her children Charles, Randy and Herlinda, and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11am Friday, Dec 19, at Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church,7669 Girard Avenue in La Jolla. A private interment, for family members, will be held on Saturday at the Santa Barbara Mission.The family would be grateful for contributions made in their beloved Conchita's name to San Diego Hospice, 4311 Third Ave, SD, CA.
